Meet Jessica
Jessica Wells is one of Australia’s most sought-after composers for concert and screen.
A recipient of the 2025 AACTA Award for Best Original Score in a Documentary (Mozart’s Sister) and the 2024 Art Music Luminary Award (NSW), she has established herself as a leading figure in Australian music.
Her compositions span solo harp to full symphony orchestra, with works performed by major Australian orchestras and ensembles. In 2025, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will premiere her new Guzheng Concerto with soloist Mindy Meng Wang; and her first full-length ballet, “Butterfly Effect”, with choreography by Alice Topp, will be performed by West Australian Ballet.
“Endangered Australia” is a yet-to be released wildlife documentary featuring a score recorded by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and her television credits include writing the themes for ABC’s “Q&A”, “Compass” and “Dream Gardens”.
Jessica’s work as an orchestrator, arranger, producer, and conductor has made her a key collaborator in the industry. She has orchestrated for leading Australian composers, contributed to acclaimed theatre productions, and worked on film soundtracks, including “Elvis”, “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Paper Planes”.
Her ability to write effective orchestral arrangements has led to collaborations on shows such as “The Man from Snowy River” in concert, “Indie Symphony” games music concerts, “What the world needs now: A Celebration of Burt Bacharach”, and “In the Mood for Love” In Concert.
From award-winning concert works to innovative film scores, Jessica Wells continues to push musical boundaries, creating work that resonates across genres and audiences.
